Have you ever wondered what is so good about Jesus? That is the question you may be wondering, and an important question we should all consider: whether you are a seasoned follower of Christ, or you don’t know Him as your Savior yet.
Sometimes when I read the account of Jesus life, and what the Old Testament says about Him, I can’t wrap my head around why He would attract so many followers.
Isaiah 53 says He was despised and rejected. A man of suffering and familiar with pain. He was in the worldly sense, undesirable. He suffered a death that no one would long for. The punishment set apart for the worst of criminals. The cross.
He doesn’t seem like someone who would catch our attention if we were to pass Him on the street. What is so good about Jesus?
God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16
This is the good news and the unshakeable confidence that we can have.
Yes. There is something about Jesus.
He came near. He was tested and tempted, just as we are. He suffered, just as we do. But unlike us, Jesus was always faithful. He always endured, always bravely persevered. Because Jesus is able to sympathize with our weaknesses, we can stand firm in our faith and approach God’s throne in confidence (as Hebrews 4:16 encourages us) so that we can find mercy and grace in our times of need.
In a world that is constantly changing, it can be hard to imagine something that doesn’t change, but Hebrews 13:8 says that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. This is a truth that can give us great comfort and affirm our hope.
