Spiritual Giants/Moving Mountains

Have you every looked at someone as a “spiritual giant”?  As the Grant Applicant and Recipient Liaison at MedSend, I have the pleasure of reading the applications of aspiring medical missionaries, and newsletters and annual reports from our recipients that come in as part of my job. As I sit at my desk reading, I have been in awe of how God works in the lives of our grant recipients, and I have often tended to see them as “spiritual giants.” Two weeks ago, I attended the Global Missions Health Conference in Louisville, KY, my second time serving as MedSend’s representative there. As I met and connected with one specific grant recipient, one thing struck me: they are not spiritual giants.

Missionaries are people, like you and me, who hear God’s call on their lives and say “I will go where You lead.” They are people like you and me who are made unique by God for the purpose of furthering His Kingdom. They are people like you and me for whom God will move every mountain He has to so that we can fulfill the call He has placed on our lives.

Matthew 17:20
“Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

About 10 months before I started working for MedSend, I felt that I was going to have a career change and that I would not have to look for an opportunity but that it would “fall into my lap”. LONG story short, nine months later, my pastor emailed me about a position available at an organization that he felt I would be perfect for. Trying to set up an interview seemed impossible because of conflicting schedules, and I began to get discouraged and thought that maybe I had heard God wrong. But, unbeknownst at the time, God arranged for me and MedSend’s president to be at the same leadership conference. My pastor introduced us and – in my ripped jeans, messy hair, a Josh Wilson t-shirt, and flip flops – I had my first interview. Eeek.  Who the heck would hire me when I dressed like that?  Good thing, he didn’t hold the circumstance against me!  I have been in my position at MedSend for over two years now, and He continues to confirm to me why He has me here.

What is God calling you to do? Tell Him that you will go, and watch as He will move every single mountain for you to get there! Maybe you already know what He has called you to do, and obstacles (mountains) keep getting in the way. It would be really easy to say “you know what? This is too hard.” But it is in the times of enduring the leading you know God has placed on your life that will prove His faithfulness in big ways. Let’s confidently step up to do whatever God has for us to do… as individuals uniquely made for His purpose.

*This was originally written a year ago for a Facebook post for work.  I was at the Global Missions Health Conference for the third time last week, and I thought that it was fitting to post my experience from last year here because I see all the time how God will move every mountain to fulfill His call on someones life, and He will on yours too!
